The short answer
YouTube Music has no public pitch form for artists. Editorial consideration comes through your distributor or label, a claimed Official Artist Channel, and evidence on the video side of YouTube. Ask your distributor to flag the release 4 to 6 weeks out, and pitch independent channels and playlist owners directly by email.
- No artist-facing editorial inbox. Distributors and labels flag releases to YouTube Music's editorial teams.
- Start 4 to 6 weeks before release; 2 to 3 weeks is the window for booking a premiere.
- Claim your Official Artist Channel and keep titles and metadata consistent across music and video.
- Independent YouTube channels often publish a business email in the About tab and take pitches directly.
Every guide that tells you to "pitch YouTube Music" is hiding the same fact: there is no artist-facing submission form for YouTube Music's editorial playlists. Unlike Spotify, which puts a pitch form inside Spotify for Artists, and unlike Apple, which gives distributors a form in Connect, YouTube Music has no public inbox that an independent artist can open on release week.
That does not mean there is nothing to do. It means the work moves earlier and into three routes that do exist: your distributor, your Official Artist Channel, and the independent channels and playlist curators on the video side of YouTube. TAP's guide to YouTube Music pitching, published in March 2026, describes exactly this structure and is the source for much of the timeline below (TAP).
Why there is no pitch form
YouTube Music is a discovery product layered over a much larger video platform. Its editorial team works with partners, labels and distributors rather than with an open queue, and tracks reach it through those relationships plus the platform's own data. Curators, in turn, watch what already performs. So the honest answer to "how do I pitch YouTube Music?" is: build the evidence first, then put it in front of the people who can flag it.
Silence is normal. Where a reply comes at all, TAP reports 2 to 4 weeks as typical, and often nothing comes back. A track passed over for one playlist can still appear on another months later.
Route 1: your distributor
Your distributor is the closest thing to a submission channel. Many distributors now offer an editorial pitch or flagging service that reaches several DSPs from one form, and the larger ones have working relationships an individual artist cannot replicate.
Ask directly: "What is your route into YouTube Music editorial, what do you need from me, and by when?" Most distributors will act on a release you brief; almost none will ask you first. Four to six weeks before release is the window, because the editorial decision needs time to happen before the release is no longer current.
| Item | Example |
|---|---|
| Release date and format | Single, out 14 November, part of a three-single run |
| Genre and mood | Dark electronic pop, late-night, mid-tempo |
| Two or three sentences | The sound, the story, and why it fits a specific kind of playlist |
| Evidence | Independent playlist adds, radio, press, early video watch time |
| Links | The video and your artist channel, both public and checkable |
If a distributor's only route is a generic DSP pitch, that is still worth using. The note should name the kind of playlist, not "editorial playlists" in general, because a blanket ask reads as a mass send.
Route 2: your Official Artist Channel
YouTube's Official Artist Channel, or OAC, is the profile an editorial team or a curator checks when your name comes up. YouTube Help says the requirements are a channel dedicated to one artist or band, at least one official release delivered and distributed by a music distributor or label, no policy violations, and one of the partner conditions such as working with a partner manager, being in the YouTube Partner Program, or being distributed by a listed music partner (YouTube Help).
Applications go through your label or distributor. Once the OAC exists, it programs your catalog onto shelves for music videos, songs and albums, and it unlocks Artist Analytics. Keep the channel name consistent with the release artist name, keep the artwork current, and make sure official uploads are linked to the artist rather than sitting on a personal channel. YouTube for Artists collects the setup resources in one place (YouTube for Artists).
Route 3: the video side
This is the route most independent artists control best. A music video or lyric video that holds watch time is a signal the editorial team can see without anyone taking your word for it, and YouTube Music surfaces video content inside its playlists. A track with both an audio release and a finished video has two assets competing for attention; a lyric video costs little and gives curators something visual to use.
- Finish the video before release week, not after. The pitch window closes before most artists finish editing.
- Write the description for search. Music24's 2026 guide recommends genre and mood descriptors in titles and descriptions, without keyword stuffing, because metadata drives discovery on YouTube far more than the audio file does (Music24, 9 July 2026).
- Concentrate the first 24 to 48 hours. Early velocity is what YouTube's systems test before they widen distribution.
- Turn a passing Short into an asset. A Short that uses the hook can bring new viewers to the full video, which is the watch time curators evaluate.
Route 4: independent channels and curators
Outside editorial, YouTube has a large layer of independent music channels and user-run playlists. These take email and DMs, and many publish a submissions address. They are where an independent artist has the most control.
- Find channels in your genre, not channels with the biggest subscriber numbers. Search your genre plus "playlist" and look for accounts that upload consistently.
- Read the About tab. A business email usually sits there; where it does not, follow the site or Linktree links. Read any submission rules before you send.
- Keep the pitch under 100 words. Name a recent upload you actually listened to, give the track, genre, release date and one link, and offer artwork, credits and a clean file so the curator does not have to ask.
- Follow up once, after about ten days, then stop. Independent channels answer in days when they answer at all.
- Ask for a premiere early. A YouTube premiere is booked with a channel, needs 2 to 3 weeks of notice, and once dated becomes a fact you can put in a distributor pitch.
The same outreach rules that work on Spotify curators apply here: personalise the first line, one link, no attachments, and log every reply. Our pitch email template works unchanged for a YouTube channel.
The calendar
| When | What |
|---|---|
| -6 to -5 weeks | Metadata final, video finished, distributor briefed with the full context |
| -3 weeks | Premiere booked with a channel; independent curator outreach begins |
| -2 weeks | Follow-up emails to channels that have not replied; assets ready |
| Release week | Concentrate traffic into the first 48 hours; video and audio live together |
| +4 weeks | Check with the distributor once, then move on |
Five mistakes
- Looking for a form that does not exist. Time spent hunting for a YouTube Music pitch portal is time not spent briefing the distributor or booking independent channels.
- Releasing with no video. On a video-first platform, the audio release alone gives curators nothing to evaluate.
- Buying views or plays. Bought engagement is artificial streaming by another name and is penalised across platforms, as our artificial streaming guide explains.
- Sending the same paragraph to every channel. Curators in one genre talk to each other. Personalise the first line or expect silence.
- Chasing editorial after release. TAP reports that silence is normal and chasing does not help. Redirect the effort to channels that do answer, and to the next release.

Questions
Can I pitch YouTube Music editorial directly?
No. There is no public submission form or inbox for YouTube Music's editorial team. Tracks reach it through distributors and labels, so the practical route is to ask your distributor to flag the release and to give them the context they need.
How do I get an Official Artist Channel?
YouTube creates Official Artist Channels from existing channels. You need an official release delivered by a distributor or label and a channel that follows YouTube's policies, and you request the OAC through your label or distributor. YouTube's help centre lists the full requirements.
How far in advance should I pitch YouTube Music?
Have everything ready about five weeks before release: final metadata, a finished video and your distributor holding the brief. Independent channels are usually pitched 2 to 3 weeks out, and premieres need 2 to 3 weeks of notice.
Do YouTube views help YouTube Music playlists?
Yes, they are the strongest signal you can build yourself. YouTube Music and YouTube share a recommendation system, and a video that holds watch time gives curators and editors evidence they can check without taking your word for it.
How do I find a YouTube playlist curator's email?
Open the channel that runs the playlist and check the About tab, which often lists a business email. If it is not there, follow the links to the curator's site or socials. Read any submission rules before you send.
